Tourism Day is a global event held every year in September. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of the great importance tourism has for local communities – which is certainly true in Plakias.
Following our participation last year Dive2gether once again represented the diving sector on the main boulevard. Our aim was to spread awareness of the wonders that lie beneath the surface of the Mediterranean Sea which so many locals are unaware of.
This was brilliantly done in a superb presentation titled ‘Plakias: Tip of the iceberg’. Although the nerves were certainly there for Paul, Erik and Mike they did not show as they delivered their words beautifully in Greek, English and German.
The ooo’s and ahhh’s were heard all around by amazed on lookers as they heard about what their incredible coastline had to offer! These intriguing words were backed up by our Underwater Life video which certainly took the imagination of many of the locals and tourists watching.
The ending was met with a huge round of applause. We hope that we have been able to wake the interest in the underwater world of some of the villagers and therefore taken another step in realising our dream of making the area around Plakias a Marine Protected Area.
