INTERNSHIPS
Are you seeking an unforgettable experience where you not only learn about the ecosystem interactions and oceanographic processes of the Mediterranean Sea, but can also discover your passion for fieldwork and scientific outreach? Immerse yourself in hands-on learning with our team of marine biologists in a fully tailored internship that enhances your CV and prepares you for the role of a scientist in the field, while giving you the chance to dive daily.

RAINFOREST OF THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA
Explore the 'rainforest of the Mediterranean Sea' in our specialised day of 2 dives focusing on seagrass research. Enjoy an extended briefing to learn techniques for identifying the marine life inhabiting our endemic Posidonia oceanica meadows, and then gear up and get under the waves to become an integral part of our seagrass restoration project. Learn how to mesaure shoot density using a quadrat, make health assessments, and then even plant your own seagrass fragments in one of our special geo-mats. Back at the dive school, peer through our microscopes to meet some of the tiny epibionts that make up such a big part of the biodiversity of these seagrass meadows.
By joining our marine biologists on this day, you are actively contributing to important research and the future health of the Mediterranean Sea's most important habitat.

SECRETS OF THE SAND
This activity will change the way you view sand forever. Many divers are bored by swimming over large stretches of sand, but this day of 2 dives with one of our marine biologists will teach you to look more closely. Discover a vibrant community of benthic animals living both on and within the sand. Explore the question of where sand actually comes from, and learn to identify the creatures living in this realm.
Learn to use sampling tubes underwater to collect your own samples of coarse and fine-grained sand to take back to the lab for analysis. Examine the microscopic life between the sand grains under the olive trees in our garden, and prepare to be captivated.

HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT
Underwater, the line between plant and animal can become blurred. What may look like tiny trees growing from the rocks, or swaying feathery flowers, are often actually unique sessile animals attached to hard substrates and thriving in cracks and crevices. Why waste energy growing legs, or eyes, when you can hold on to a rock and wait for the ever-moving water to bring food to you?
Make 2 dives from our boat equipped with slates, torches, and magnifying glasses to broaden your understanding of marine biodiversity. Before heading back to the harbour, collect plankton samples in our tow nets to take back to the lab. Discover the alien-like larvae of the same sessile animals you encountered on your dives.
